At the beginning of this year, the students in grades 5 through 12 learned about how the German federal parliament was elected. They then participated in a simulated election, experiencing the way ‘real-life’ voting works. Grade 10 organized the election and their classroom was set up as the voting location. The votes were cast and tallied and the results were displayed on the digital notice board. The SPD (German Socialistic Party) was the clear winner of our school elections. Mrs Merkel was elected overwhelmingly by the first votes. This project made it possible for the students of the ERS to experience what it means to democratically elect their representatives.
