Class Trips

Going on class trips and excursions is an important part of the curriculum of the German School in Ankara.

  • Grade 11 travels to the Model-United-Nations in Lübeck (MUNOL) every year.
  • Grades 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 take special two-day trips in order to promote class community and social cooperation.
  • Grade 10 goes on a graduation and study trip to either Berlin or Istanbul.
  • Grades 5 through 9 and 11 travel to the ski resort Kartalkaya once a year for a week of skiing.

The traditional ski trip provides the children and youths with an opportunity to learn skiing and snowboarding. It also lets them get to know their teachers and classmates in a different environment; and as the hotel we use is all inclusive, this is not at all difficult.

We have organized these ski trips for over 40 years now. The most recent one began on 11 February and went through 16 February. Fifth through ninth grade as well as eleventh grade strapped on their skis under bright sunny skies and went barrelling down snowy slopes. The students are placed in groups according to their abilities in order to make their training more effective.

This six-day trip to Hotel Dorukkaya did not only feature skiing. The skiers and snowboarders were out on the slopes from 10:00 to 16:00, with a brief break for lunch. Other activities took place in the afternoon hours. One evening highlight was when teachers and students went sledding together and another was a dance at the hotel disco.
