Physics is the most fundamental of the experimental sciences, as it seeks to explain the universe itself from the very smallest particles to the vast distances between galaxies.
Physics is one of the Group 4 Experimental Sciences in IB that includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students at standard level (SL) undertake a common core syllabus topic as: Measurements, Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Waves, Electricity & Magnetism, Circular motion and gravitation, Atomic, nuclear and particle physics, Energy production. One Optional Topic that can be chosen as: Imaging
An internal assessment (IA) should be taken by students as a project to be done Individually, and a Group 4 Science Project that should be done by students in groups for all Group 4 Sciences, this enables students to be aware of how scientists work and communicate with each other. A List of Experiments are done in this course which are used to introduce a topic, investigate a phenomenon or allow students to consider and examine questions and curiosities to develop manipulative skills, analyse results, collaborate with peers and evaluate and communicate their findings.
Assessment Outline for Physics SL is as following: Paper 1 (%20), Paper 2 (%40) , Paper 3 (%20) and Internal assessment (%20).
